Pima County Food Alliance envisions a future where residents have the resources and decision-making power to shape their food environment.

We aim to be a trusted expert and catalyst for tangible and systems-level improvements that prioritize the well-being of both people and the planet.

About

The Pima County Food Alliance (PCFA) is Pima County’s food policy council, a coalition of community members, farmers, market managers, agency staff, community organizers, university students and researchers, and others working across the local food system. PCFA works to address food system-related issues and needs through a combination of policy, advocacy, community building, education, and outreach.

Values

  • Fostering grassroots leadership and empowering individuals and communities to actively participate in decision-making processes, advocate for their rights, and shape their food environment.

  • Building adaptive and resilient food systems that can withstand shocks and stressors, while also addressing long-standing inequities and injustices.

  • Fostering partnerships and mutual aid across diverse sectors and stakeholders to cultivate a culture of solidarity and support, where food system stakeholders come together to achieve shared goals and drive meaningful change.

  • Committing to respect for nature, environmental responsibility, and climate resilience in our efforts to build a more sustainable food system.

  • Recognizing the interconnectedness of food, housing, environmental, and other social factors and fostering cross-sectoral partnerships that promote a more holistic approach to food system challenges.

  • Embracing diversity and striving for representation that reflects the diversity of Pima County; fostering an environment that affirms different perspectives, experiences, backgrounds, and approaches; and directing resources so that historically disadvantaged populations can achieve their highest state of health and wellbeing.

  • Centering the needs, voices, and agency of Pima County residents, and valuing the traditional knowledge in this region within all aspects of our work.
